Venice Carnival

The Venice Carnival runs from the Saturday before Shrove Thursday until Shrove Tuesday. Travelling theatres take place in the streets of the city in an atmosphere of merriment and playfulness, all dressed up to celebrate the glamour of a world of exclusive galas.

Among the main events is the Festa delle Marie, which consists of a parade of the twelve Marys on the afternoon of the first Saturday of Carnival, after which the most beautiful, the Mary of the year, is elected, who wins a rich prize: Il Volo dell'Angelo or Volo della Colombina, held on the first Sunday of Carnival.
